Police in Jhansi

The police, an indispensable part of our administration, are in-charge of maintaining law and order are the most visible representatives of the government. The Uttar Pradesh Police was established in 1881, the year in which the Indian Police Act came into force. The Jhansi Police is one of the 75 Police District in the state who are recruited by the UP State Police Service.

Jhansi District Zone and Range


The Uttar Pradesh Police Department is divided into 8 zones and 18 ranges covering a total of 72 districts. Each zone controls two or more Ranges. Each Range controls three or more districts under it. Jhansi comes under the purview of Kanpur Zone that includes two Ranges namely, Kanpur and Jhansi. The Range Jhansi covers three districts which are Jhansi, Jalaun and Lalitpur. In terms of administration, the Senior Superintendent of Police, appointed by the Indian Police Service is in-charge of a district. Officers in the grades of additional Superintendent of Police and Sub-Divisional Police, the Sub-Inspector and Junior Sub-inspector function under him. The Head Constable of the station and constables are in charge of the day today functioning of the Station.

Jhansi Police


Jhansi Police is in charge of maintaining law and order in the three tehsils spread across 5024 square kilometres. Maintenance of law and order is a stupendous task considering the huge influx of tourists, the extent of the district and city and its outlying towns. Around 30 police stations have been established across the districts apart from the railway police and mahila police stations. Police force is stationed at the popular tourist spots such as Jhansi Fort, Barua Sagar, Parichha Dam, etc.

Thana Divas and Tehsil Divas


An innovative step developed under the UP Police where the Police Officers meet twice a month at their respective Tehsils and Police Stations for better redressal of public grievance. This is a step forward in registering, monitoring and disposing off the grievance of public.
