Museums in Jhansi

Rani Mahal Palace

Rani Mahal Palace Museum in Jhansi


Rani Mahal was one of the residences of Rani Lakshmi Bai and is located close to Jhansi Fort. This has now been converted into a museum that houses various art, scriptures and objects belonging to the bygone era. The Palace is a quadrangular structure which has a garden, a pool and a fountain in the exterior. Among the various rooms, the Durbar Hall is the most popular for its colorful paintings with geometric, floral painting on the walls. The lower floor houses various objects, stone sculptures and the relics belonging to the Pratihara and Gupta period. They have been collected from the historical sites such as Datia, Orchha and Barua Sagar.

The Government Museum Jhansi


The Government Museum, located in Jhansi Fort, is a three-storey building that showcases objects, and collectibles pertaining to the bygone era. The first floor is dedicated to the life and times of Rani Lakshmi Bai in an area called as Maharani Lakshmi Bai Gallery which displays various arms and ammunition, weapons used by the Rani's army. The wicks used for cannons during olden times is on rare display here at the museum. Various paintings, weapons and life of other veteran freedom fighters are also on display.

Another section within the museum which is called Pandit Sitaram Bhaskar Bhagwat Gallery showcases more than 150 oil paintings dedicated to the martyrs from all over the country who sacrificed their lives for the Indian freedom.

Saket Museum in Orchha


 Saket Museum

This museum houses some of the rare and beautiful paintings belonging to the Chandela Dynasty and the Bundelkhand region. Besides, pure art forms from various parts of India are on display. Apart from this, the Ramayan Kala Museum is one such museum that has rare display of Ramayana and its stories in form of paintings.

Proposed Museum at Jhansi Fort


Veerangana Jhalkari Bai was known for her extraordinary courage, who fought with the British troops disguising herself as Rani Lakshmi Bai. It is believed that it was she who led the Rani safely outside the fort during war. As a tribute to her remarkable strength, integrity and patriotism, the Government has proposed a museum in the existing Panch Mahal, within the Jhansi Fort premises.
